West Ham chief Daniel Kretinsky
Daniel Kretinsky’s recent takeover of Royal Mail will not directly impact West Ham United, Dan Plumley has said.
The Czech billionaire was said to have made extra concessions to seal the buyout, which the Government has cleared for £3.6billion [BBC].
Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted positives around the “huge” takeover which only proves that Kretinsky’s wealth remains strong.
“It’s tough to claim a direct impact,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“They will always want to know where their investors are investing elsewhere and there is always that conversation of what the investors’ motives are in other businesses and in football.
“I think it’s hard to look at a direct impact on West Ham, there probably isn’t going to be any, certainly not in the short term.
Daniel Kretinsky secures huge takeover
“I guess the positive side to that as well, is his wealth remains strong in that regard and he is able to do that kind of business, it’s a huge takeover.
“There are lots of different things in the background, but I do think they are exactly that, in the background.”
David Sullivan has remained the face of West Ham, even with the influence of Kretinsky behind him and that doesn’t look like changing any time soon.
The Czech national would need to put in a substantial offer to Sullivan to become the chief decision maker at the London Stadium, with a £600m outside bid already refused in the past [Kieran Maguire].
If anything, this Royal Mail takeover only proves that Kretinsky does have the power and wealth to put more money on the table if he decides.
That is something to certainly watch in the near future.
