TfL Boxing Day 2024 travel advice for Tube, London Buses, Overground, Elizabeth Line

Transport for London (TfL) services are set to operate differently on Boxing Day 2024. Services on the Elizabeth Line, which runs to Brentwood and Shenfield in Essex, will be very different. There will also be a swathe of changes to Overground services.

On the Overground, there will be no trains between from Euston to Watford Junction, Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside, Liverpool Street to Enfield Town, Cheshunt and Chingford, Romford to Upminster, Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction, Sydenham to West Croydon and Willesden Junction to Richmond.

There will be no Elizabeth Line services at all on Boxing Day. You may need to catch the bus instead. Services will start running from around 5.30am, MyLondon reports.

As regards the Tube, services resume on Boxing Day, as do DLR trains and trams. However, there may be disruption on the network. It’s always worth keeping on eye on TfL’s updates.

You can do this by using the authority’s journey planner, or the TfL Go app. Officials advise on TfL’s website: “Between Friday, December 20 2024 and Sunday, January 5 2025, planned work, closures and service changes may affect your journey.”

They add: “During the Christmas and New Year period, there are likely to be changes to timetables on TfL services. Details will be available nearer the time.”

As regards driving charges, the Congestion Charge will not operate from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day (inclusive). The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will not operate on Christmas Day, but will be active on Boxing Day and all other days.

The Low Emission Zone (LEZ) operates every day of the year.

National Rail disruption

Aside from TfL services, there will be no National Rail trains running on Boxing Day. This is except for ‘a handful’ of airport transfer services.

Trains to and from Liverpool Street, the Paddington area, and London St. Pancras are disrupted across the festive period.
