Geraint Thomas leaves a load of free beer next to his golden post box in Cardiff

Welsh sporting great Geraint Thomas has left a load of free beers on the side of the road in Cardiff.

Stacked up next to his golden post box on Castle Street in the city centre are a collection of BrewDog beers, coming from their alcohol-free range.

In the first month of the year, many people take on the ‘Dry January’ challenge, where they abstain from drinking alcohol for 31 days. However, many still enjoy the taste of beer, so the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club and BrewDog have teamed up to promote an idea to help you get through the month.

If you turn up to the location and say “G sent me”, you’ll be handed a free crate of BrewDog’s alcohol-free beers. If you miss out, you can head to BrewDog itself on Westgate Street to enjoy a free pint of alcohol-free beer on Thomas himself.

“Who’s in Cardiff today and fancies a free beer?” Thomas wrote on Facebook.

“For January, the GTCC has teamed up with BrewDog to bring some balance to the start of 2025. And to celebrate I’ve left some crates of BrewDog AF at my golden post box on Castle Street in Cardiff.

“They’ll be there from midday today – just say ‘G sent me’ to get yours. And if you miss out, don’t worry – you can head to BrewDog Cardiff and enjoy a pint of BrewDog AF on me at any point today. Just tell the bar staff I sent you. Let me know if you make it.”

The post box was painted gold by the Royal Mail in 2012 to celebrate the gold medal won by Thomas in the Olympic Games. Thomas re-posted a picture of the post box on his Instagram story, which shows almost 20 boxes of beer perched in front of it.
