Peninsula road closed by water leak

Repairs which have led to a road being closed on the Rosneath Peninsula should be complete next week, Scottish Water have said.

The single-track Barbour Road, which runs above Kilcreggan and Cove, has been closed since yesterday, with traffic diverted along School Road and North Ailey Road.

Residents say that workers have been at the site near Knockderry Lodge all week, and that since Thursday there have been no mail deliveries or bin collections, while the Roadworks Scotland website says ‘urgent leakage repairs would mean the road was closed for seven working days.

A resident said: “Their signage on School Road says road on the left closed, I assume the bin lorry and Royal Mail have seen this and turned round.

“They have a road closed sign three miles from its closure point, to me this should be at the top of North Alley.

“Why does the diversion end at this point, where are they diverting the residents of Barbour Road.”

A Scottish Water spokesperson said today: “The repair on the leaking pipe is complete and full reinstatement of the road should be completed by early next week.”
