Royal Mail offers a wide range of postage options as part of its UK services, with some routes known to be quicker than others.
The fastest online option is Royal Mail Tracked 24, which ensures letters and parcels are delivered within 24 hours and has full tracking details from dispatch to delivery.
Special delivery guaranteed by 9am is another fast postage route for UK mail, but in some cases, disruption to Royal Mail networks is impossible.
In its latest services update, Royal Mail named more than 30 postcodes that could face delays to post and deliveries today, Tuesday, January 14.
Significant issues with the air network’s logistics meant that some mail due for delivery in the western Isles of Scotland might arrive later than expected.
Last night, adverse weather conditions cancelled flights between Glasgow Airport and Stornoway Airport, which caused the disruption.
Mail was transferred to contingency services, so some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK could be delayed.
Royal Mail noted that in addition to delayed mail due in the western isles of Scotland, items travelling in the opposite direction may also be affected.
Further technical issues meant flights between Stornoway Airport and Benbecula (Hebrides) Airport were cancelled last night.
The postal service explained that as a result, “some items posted between other parts of the UK and Hebrides (HS postcode areas), may arrive later than planned”.
The rest of Royal Mail’s main UK networks, including rail, road and mail centres, operated to schedule over the past 24 hours.
However, issues in some delivery offices mean dozens of postcodes are impacted by delivery delays today.
Among those affected are Alnwick, Banbury, Boston, Bethnal Green, Bridgwater and Bristol East, all of which experienced delays yesterday, Monday, January 13.
Royal Mail has listed several more areas due to “local issues” impacting staff resources in parts of the country.
Households in the following postcode areas expecting deliveries today should be mindful of the disruption:
