Nigel Farage takes swipe at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry while praising Duchess of Edinburgh

Nigel Farage branded Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as “wonderboy and wondergirl” during today’s Buckingham Palace reception, criticising the couple for “disappearing off” to America.

The Reform UK leader made the remarks after attending a special reception hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Farage accused the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of weakening the Royal Family’s workforce through their departure to the United States.

The reception, held in the State Ballroom, welcomed more than 300 MPs to the palace.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and opposition leader Kemi Badenoch were among the distinguished guests.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester joined the King and Queen at the event.

During the reception, Farage engaged directly with Prince Edward, telling the duke he had “a very very good chat” with his wife Sophie.

The Reform leader praised Edward’s work ethic, telling him: “You are working jolly hard.”

Speaking afterwards, Farage commended the Edinburghs as “charming,” noting they “do a lot of heavy lifting because there’s one or two gaps out there.”

He added: “It’s been a difficult few years.”

Farage elaborated on the current challenges facing the Royal Family, citing multiple factors creating these “gaps” in duties.

“Wonderboy and wondergirl disappear off to America, the Queen dies, the King’s not been well, Andrew’s not in the public eye, Princess Anne is 74,” he explained.

The Reform leader noted that these circumstances have led to the Edinburghs taking on increased responsibilities.

He praised their performance, saying they were “doing it very well.”

The reception marked a significant moment for new parliamentarians following the July 2024 election, which saw a record-breaking intake of MPs.

Some 335 newcomers entered Westminster, surpassing the previous record of 327 set in 1945.

An additional 15 MPs returned to Parliament after periods of absence, bringing the total number of newly elected members to 350.

The event also welcomed peers appointed to the House of Lords following Their Majesties’ coronation in May 2023.
