eBay sellers and buyers have been warned over “big changes” which are “not good”. eBay buyers face paying new charges when purchasing items from private sellers from this week, the online auction site has confirmed.
“Big, big changes are coming and I don’t think they’re very good – certainly not for the sellers,” Biz Nest wrote.. “From February 4, you will not get paid for your items until two days after the customer has received them,” he warned.
eBay has emailed customers saying: “We are making changes to the way we process payments on eBay. Going forward, we’ll make your funds available for payout within 48 hours after we’ve confirmed delivery of the item. Until then, you’ll see a ‘hold’ on your funds. This process helps keep our marketplace safe.”

Biz Nest said:. “Now we have to wait, so my advice to you is to do everything via a quicker track service – I’ll be using Royal Mail’s 48-hour service for all my items.” He said: “Personally I’m going to keep all my prices the same, but changing all the delivery prices and see how it effects sales.”
He added: “If I see a downturn in sales then I’ll look at my profit margin and maybe reduce my prices slightly. But it’s something for you all to bear in mind.” Starting February 4, 2025, eBay will charge a flat fee of 75p per item to buyers.
The fee will also include 4% of the item price up to £300, and 2% of the item price from £300 to £4,000. The fee is intended to provide extra protections for buyers. Starting February 4, 2025, private sellers will have to wait until the item is confirmed to be delivered before receiving payment.
Private sellers will soon be required to pay for postage through eBay. UK-based private sellers can sell on eBay for free, except for items in the motors category. Fees may apply if the seller lists more than 300 items in a month, adds optional upgrades, or delivers to an overseas address.
