Frome’s postal chaos leaves residents fuming

Royal Mail has faced further calls to address the ‘deteriorating’ situation at the Frome sorting office. Anna Sabine MP has written to Ofcom after several attempts to contact the Department of Business and Trade, to which she has received no response. Ms Sabine, the MP for Frome and East Somerset has demanded answers from Ofcom.

She said: “Since October, I have had contact with nearly 150 residents who are having serious issues with their postal deliveries”.

This comes in light of the recent fines issued to Royal Mail for failing to meet its obligations and the consultation that last week announced a lowering of targets for Universal Service Obligation and the cutting of second-class deliveries.

She added: “The solution for ensuring public service obligations are met is not to reduce expectations. The residents of Frome and East Somerset deserve better and it is time that someone from the Government or Ofcom started taking responsibility and addressed the situation in a serious way”.

As well as an inpouring of experiences of those using the Frome sorting office, Ms Sabine has also been made aware of situations in other areas of the constituency in Radstock and Midsomer Norton and intends to investigate these further.
