National security – by Jonty Bloom

Each new morning brings some new joy and this morning is no different, I awoke to discover that President Trump has decided not to enforce the law on bribing foreigners.

The rational, if you can dignify this disgusting behaviour with that word, is that this is good for national security. Since winning foreign contracts is good for American business, and American business is good for America then bribing foreign officials is good for America’s national security.

Frankly the President can get away with a lot if he cites “National Security” as the reason for his actions but at some point the courts are going to have to get involved and decide what is and is not legal on national security grounds.

For instance one recent high profile case involved bribes paid for a foreign defence contract, that meant the US government was defrauded. Are we to now assume that US taxpayers will be stung by their own government and there will be nothing anyone can do about it on the grounds that defrauding the Defence Department is good for national security?.

In the meantime, fill your boots, bribe away. Every American firm will now be asked for backhanders everywhere all the time, it is open season. The corrupt contracts will flood in, the poor in developing countries will be made poorer, American firms will pocket the huge profits and pay their bosses millions for their work.

Big business loves Trump and now we can see why, they are corrupt, utterly corrupt and shameless.
