Villagers heard ‘loud bang’ as post box theft damages road and pavement

Families heard a ‘loud bang’ as a post box was stolen from their village. And the theft in the centre of Rudyard has damaged the road and pavement.

Now police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place at around 10.40pm on Monday. StokeonTrentLive had previously reported how the Royal Mail has directed residents to other facilities after the red box, which sat on a post by the Camrose Hill and Rudyard Road junction, was hauled off.

Today and Staffordshire Police has made a public appeal for information. A spokesperson said: “At around 10.40pm on Monday residents on Camrose Hill reported hearing a loud bang. The incident was reported to us the next morning after residents noticed a post box was missing. Damage was also caused to the road and pavement.

“Anyone with any information that can help us with our enquiries or those with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time are asked to get in touch.”

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: “We are aware of the theft of a postbox in Rudyard and have reported it to the police for investigation. Customers can alternatively use the postboxes at Upper Rudyard or Horton or drop off their mail at any Post Office branch.”

Anyone with information should call Staffordshire Police on 101 and quote incident 606 of February 18.
