Scodix partners with major materials supplier

Digital embellishment manufacturer, Scodix, has announced its partnership with Winter & Company, a global supplier of cover materials for the publishing industry.

The collaboration, which will be showcased at Hunkeler Innovation Days 2025, combines Scodix’s digital embellishment technology with Winter & Company’s book cover materials, aiming to open new creative possibilities for global brands.

Scodix technology will be used to embellish directly on a wide range of Winter & Company’s premium materials including leather and silk. This will include a range of Winter & Company’s cover material substrates including its Skivertex, Napura, Corvon, and Wibalin products.

The advancement is designed to allow for enhanced tactile and visual effects on premium products, catering to the growing demand for unique and sustainable solutions.

Scodix’s Ultra 2500 Series and Ultra 6500 Series presses offer direct embellishment on a range of uncoated substrates. Its Multi-layer Enhancement (MLE) process applies multiple layers in a single pass, aiming to produce rich, vibrant effects while maintaining a smooth texture.

The first layer in the MLE print process acts as a selective micro-coating primer on uncoated substrates, preparing the surface for subsequent embellishments. These can include Scodix Sense, a digital embellishment technology that adds a raised, glossy texture to printed materials.

Speaking of the collaboration, Franz Repp, EMEA president at Scodix, says: “This partnership with Winter & Company unlocks a new era of creative possibilities for premium book producers.

“Combining Scodix’s cutting-edge digital embellishment technology with Winter & Company’s exquisite range of uncoated substrates empowers brands to create truly exceptional products. The ability to print and embellish directly onto materials like leather and silk opens doors to tactile and visual experiences that just weren’t possible until now, allowing producers to elevate their offerings and captivate consumers with unique and sustainable solutions.”

A statement from Winter & Company adds: “At Winter & Company, we highly value collaboration with innovative partners like Scodix. We are excited to see companies exploring new, forward-thinking solutions that bring added value to our customers.”

Attendees at Hunkeler Innovation Days 2025 have been invited to attend live demonstrations of Scodix’s prints on Winter & Company substrates, this will take place throughout the event.
