Bedford-based Verifile has ‘done the double’ and won another royal award in recognition of its success.

Verifile was awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2019, but last week it was officially handed over the King’s Award for Enterprise – International Trade, cementing its place as a company “central to delivering growth in our economy”.

Verilfie, started in 2004 by Eyal Ben-Cohen, is an HR technology company and leading provider of global employee screening and background checks for HR and talent acquisition.

While the award was announced in May 2024, the official presentation by HM Lord Lieutenant Susan Lousada happened at Verifile’s offices in Priory Business Park last week (10 February).

Handing over the award, the Lord Lieutenant spoke of her pride in Verifile, “Businesses like Verifile are central to delivering growth within our economy.

“By selling your services both near and far and by creating opportunities for work and supporting people as they transition through their career.

“It’s a great honour for me to be with you today as we present you with a King’s Award for Enterprise in the category of international trade.

“That’s an outstanding achievement in itself. But the fact that this is the consecutive one is frankly nothing short of exceptional.”

Receiving the award, Ben-Cohen paid tribute to his staff and the teams who he said were the “drivers of the business”.

“Your hard work is really what makes everything so special here, and it’s a privilege for me to stand here and receive this award on your behalf,” he said.

“The last couple of years they’ve been extremely tough. The labour market in this country has been contracting for the last two 1/2 years. But we’re still standing here fighting.

“We’re working with amazing customers and we’re delivering, delivering amazing results. So, thank you very much for everything that you have done”.

Bedford Borough Mayor, Tom Wootton (Conservative) was also in attendance and added, “It’s just privileged to be here and I’m just so grateful that you’re in Bedford and you put Bedford on the map. It’s wonderful.”

Two awards in one day

After wrapping up the official presentation of the King’s Award another, some may say, more important award was announced.

The team had recently been holding a Bake Off competition and the Lord Lieutenant handed the award winner, Katie, her commemorative wooden spoon.

A reception followed with refreshments and homemade treats from the Verifile team with the Lord Lieutenant, Deputy Lieutenant Nick Kier and Mayor staying to chat with staff.

Commenting later on Social Media Ben-Cohen wrote it was ‘a perfect ending to a day filled with camaraderie and celebration. With our eyes set on the future, we’re already gearing up to push the boundaries further (and maybe even chase a King’s Award for Innovation next)’.
