NatWest and the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) have announced plans to close 56 bank branches in 2025, a move likely to affect customers who prefer in-person services. The extensive closure will see NatWest ceasing operations in 54 locations, alongside RBS shutting down two branches, with one already having closed its doors last month.
The majority of these closures are slated to occur between April and June. With an increasing trend towards online banking, NatWest notes the shift in customer behaviour but accepts that the change may worry those customers dependent on face-to-face interactions.
For banking needs such as everyday services, NatWest customers can use RBS branches, and similarly, RBS clients can access services at NatWest locations. Additionally, there’s the option to check for “mobile branch” availability – a temporary setup by bank staff in community locales for a designated time frame, reports the Mirror.

These mobile services facilitate deposits, cash withdrawals, and bill payments, though not all cash or counter services will be available. Alternatively, for basic transactions like cash handling, balance inquiries, and cheque deposits, customers can visit their local Post Office.
Statistics from Which? reveal that since January 2015, banks and building societies have shuttered a total of 6,293 branches, averaging about 53 monthly closures.
Of these, the NatWest Group has closed down 1,431 branches.
