Kate Middleton ‘snubbed’ from Royal Family post on landmark day

A recent post on the Royal Family’s official Instagram account left some fans outraged, as they believe it was a major snub and ‘disrespectful’ to the Princess of Wales and late Princess Diana

Royal enthusiasts expressed their disappointment after discerning what they perceived as a glaring oversight towards the Princess of Wales.

The official Royal Family Instagram page paid tribute to International Women’s Day last week, March 8, by featuring images of the royal women taken by female photographers.

The curated photo sequence included Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, the Duchess of Edinburgh, along with historical figures such as Queen Victoria, Queen Alexandra, and the late Queen Elizabeth II.

However, followers quickly noticed that Princess Diana and Kate were missing from this photographic homage – sparking quite the reaction according to reports in the Mirror.

Fans didn’t hold back, with one commenting: “You’re missing The Princess of Wales, both of them,” and another remarked: “With all respect, I think the Princess of Wales should have been included in this list. She is both a great photographer and has been pictured by women too, like @milliepilkingtonphotography.”

Comments continued with a third fan pointing out: “You really did a mistake not adding Catherine here.” Their sentiments were echoed by another who stated, “And Catherine? ! ! ! ! With all respect, that was a very disrespectful omission.”

Despite the outcry, some followers stepped in to justify the post. One asserted: “To everyone commenting and complaining about the Princess of Wales: This post is not about female members of the Royal Family but about female photographers who photographed them.”

The caption read: “Today, on #InternationalWomensDay, we are showcasing the Royal Family’s longstanding support for female photographers which stretches back as far as the advent of photography in the mid-1800s.”

The statement continued: “From Frances Sally Day’s photographs of Queen Victoria in the 1850s, to Dorothy Wilding’s portraits of a young Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, and Nigerian photographer Christina Ebenezer’s recent portraits of The Duchess of Edinburgh, female photographers have captured members of the Royal Family in their own unique ways since the artform began.”

The Princess of Wales was also featured in photos taken by female photographers, although it was noted that the Royal Family’s account may not often include her as she and Prince William have their own account.

The Prince and Princess of Wales marked International Women’s Day by sharing a thread of 12 inspiring women they have met in the past year, including Chloe Hopkins, who runs the food charity Surplus to Supper, and the late Liz Hatton, a photographer who sadly passed away from cancer in November at the age of 17.

The courageous teen, diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in January, had the honour of meeting the royal couple on October 2 after an invitation from the Prince of Wales to photograph an investiture ceremony.

After their encounter with Liz, the Prince and Princess shared on Twitter: “A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today. A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength have inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. WandC.”
