Man arrested for ‘attempted kidnap’ of teen girl in Swindon

A man has been arrested for the ‘attempted kidnap’ of a teen girl in Swindon.

The 17-year-old reported being grabbed by the suspect during an incident in the town centre at around 9.30pm on Thursday 6 March.

She told police that the man followed her and invited her to his home, as the victim attempted to walk away along Princes Street towards Fleming Way.

A spokesperson for the force said: “She has reported being grabbed by him before a bus stopped close to the Leonardo Hotel.

“Lots of people were in the area at the time and several people got off a number 5 bus to assist the victim.

“We would like these people to come forward with any relevant information as soon as possible.”

A 27-year-old, from Swindon, was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap and committing an offence with the intention of committing a relevant sexual offence.

He has been released on conditional bail and the investigation is ongoing.
