Great Britain’s Royal Mail announced details on eight additional issues in its 2025 commemorative stamp program.
A July 3 issue will commemorate mushrooms. Another stamp issue dealing with the natural world will come Sept. 11 with an issue commemorating ducks.
A July 24 issue with the given subject of “Peanuts” may also pertain to the natural world if the subject relates to the legume crop grown for its edible seeds.
However, it seems more likely that the title refers to the syndicated daily comic strip featuring Snoopy and Charlie Brown that was written and illustrated by Charles Schulz and debuted 75 years ago in 1950.
The British comedy troupe Monty Python will be the subject of an Aug. 14 issue. Royal Mail previously honored Monty Python with a stamp (Scott 3388) in a 2015 Comedians set, and the troupe’s musical Spamalot was commemorated in 2011 (2870).
On Sept. 25 Royal Mail will commemorate steam locomotives with a stamp issue. Sept. 27, 2025, marks the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world’s first public railway to use steam locomotives.
Great Britain celebrates this anniversary throughout 2025 with activities and events in a campaign called Railway 200. More information is available online.
An Oct. 16 issue commemorates the board game Monopoly. This follows other tabletop games on Great Britain stamps in previous years, including Dungeons & Dragons in 2024 (Scott 4525-4534) and Warhammer in 2023 (4377-4384).
A Christmas stamp issue is scheduled for Nov. 4, and a Nov. 27 issue has no given subject.
Nov. 27 has been a busy day in British history; with the country seeing, among other events, the marriage of William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway in 1582, the first trained female police officers to be granted official status in 1914, and the Royal Air Force Fauld explosion in 1944.
The 2025 program is tentative and subject to change.
