ANALYSIS: Royal Mail are using postboxes for small parcel delivery. Should other national posts do the same?

Royal Mail customers can now drop off smaller parcels and packets at any of the 115,000 postboxes across the UK while receiving a proof of posting receipt via the Royal Mail app (read the news story here). The process uses GPS and location services to streamline proof of posting. The move is a response to the growing trend of sending smaller parcels, driven by the rise of second-hand fashion marketplaces. Is this a smart way of using existing infrastructure, and should other national carriers follow suit? Gary Winter and Marek Rozycki offer their thoughts.
