Lorraine Kelly’s three-word response as she weighs in on Meghan Markle HRH title row

Lorraine Kelly shared her opinion on the recent Meghan Markle HRH title row during the edition of ITV’s Lorraine when she was joined by royal experts Sonali Shah and Jo Elvin

Lorraine Kelly had a succinct three-word take on the Meghan Markle title controversy on Tuesday (April 29).

During this morning’s edition of ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, Kelly was in conversation with Sonali Shah and Jo Elvin about the freshest Royal updates.

The chat moved from the Prince and Princess of Wales’ impending journey to the Isle of Mull to Meghan’s debut podcast interview.

The Duchess of Sussex appeared on IT Cosmetics co-founder Jamie Kern Lima’s podcast on Monday (April 28), where she talked about her fresh Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan”, the kick-off of her lifestyle range, and offered some personal insights into family life.

Meghan has been at the centre of media attention not just for her podcast participation but also due to her continued use of the HRH title despite stepping back from formal Royal duties in 2020, reports Bristol Live.

Ahead of the interview, Meghan notably sent Jamie a gift hamper that included a note with the signature: “With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”

Though no formal legislation prohibits their usage, an agreement made with the Queen and top Palace aides meant that Harry and Meghan would cease employing the term “royal” post their Royal role relinquishment. Yet, representatives for the Sussexes mentioned they do not utilise HRH titles actively.

Discussing the issue on today’s show, Lorraine asserted plainly: “It doesn’t matter.” However, she acknowledged: “But actually, to those that care, this is a big deal that she’s doing that, isn’t it?”.

“Well, I do think that there’s a valid point in there because we all know very famously that Meghan and Harry wanted to get away from royal duties and the public scrutiny that comes with that,” Jo responded.

“99.9% of us were like, ‘You know what, fair enough, we completely understand where you’re coming from’. The deal was if you’re not working royals as per the Queen’s advice, don’t use your royal titles.”

Sonali then chimed in: “For commercial purposes, I think. So, this is like a basket for a friend.

“That does feature her jam which she wants to sell, so I understand,” Jo quickly retorted.
