Lloyds and Halifax are set to lose a total of 14 branches in June as part of a major restructuring by their parent company.
Three Lloyds banks and 11 Halifax branches are due to close permanently, with Welwyn Garden City losing both in the same month.
Lloyds Banking Group, which operates Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, has announced plans to shut at least 254 branches in 2025 and 2026.
The decision is based on changing customer behaviour towards online banking and a decline in branch footfall.
Over-the-counter transactions have fallen by an average of 48% over the past five years in the branches that are closing.
The closures will result in the loss of 166 Lloyds branches, while 107 Halifax branches and 31 Bank of Scotland branches have been earmarked for closure across 2025 and 2026.
Earlier this year, in January, the Group confirmed that at least 136 more branches were set to close by March 2026.
This is in addition to the 146 sites already scheduled for closure in 2025, reports the Express.
Following these closures, there will be around 756 Lloyds Banking Group branches remaining in the UK, down from approximately 2,200 a decade ago.
This trend is not unique to Lloyds Banking Group. NatWest has confirmed it will close 53 branches in the first half of 2025, Barclays is in the process of closing 99 branches by the end of this year, and Santander is planning to close 95 UK branches.
A spokesperson for Lloyds commented: “Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches.
“Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a banking hub.”
