Bogus traders flee in white van as neighbour intervenes before OAP pays up

Bogus traders tried to get an OAP to pay for ‘roof repairs’ – before last being seen in a white van. They targeted the homeowner in the Badgers Croft area of Eccleshall.

But a neighbour intervened and the dodgy traders fled. The alarm was raised at 12.30pm on Saturday, May 31.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We are urging local residents to remain vigilant following a report of suspicious activity involving bogus tradespersons. Three males — all described as white, with dark hair, and wearing black T-shirts and knee-length shorts— visited the home of an elderly resident. They claimed that roof repairs were needed and entered the property, including the loft area. During the visit, they attempted to obtain payment using the resident’s bank card. They have then left the address when challenged by a neighbour and were seen driving away in a white Ford Transit van towards Stone Road.”

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident. They should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 379 of 31 May.
