Fred said: “Resorts like Sunny Beach and Sozopol offer golden sands and lively nightlife, but you’ll pay a fraction of the cost for accommodation and dining compared to Santorini or Mykonos.”

This claim is supported by data, as the latest Post Office Holiday Money Report, which compared 47 destinations on the cost of typical holiday essentials, ranked Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach as one of the most pocket-friendly locations.

A beer costs just £2.47, and a three-course dinner for two with wine will only set you back around £48.25 – nearly unthinkable on most Greek islands during peak season, reports the Express.

Beyond the affordability, this stretch of the Black Sea coast also boasts beauty and character.

Sunny Beach, as its name suggests, boasts miles of golden, sun-drenched coastline with turquoise waters, and vibrant promenades that are bustling well into the evening.

For those seeking a break from the beach, the ancient city of Nessebar, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is just a stone’s throw away.

This historic city is renowned for its cobbled streets, ruins and ancient structures, including the remnants of a 5th-century church.

Venturing further inland, visitors can explore the Pomorie Roman tombs, offering a glimpse into Bulgaria’s past through their remarkably preserved architecture.

Just south of Sunny Beach lies Sozopol, one of the oldest towns on the Bulgarian coast, featuring cobbled lanes, traditional wooden houses, and a bustling fishing harbour.
