Isle of Wight Steam Railway track closed as firefighters tackle blaze

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a fire beside the Isle of Wight Steam Railway track.

Crews from Ryde and Sandown were called at 11.46am today (Sunday) to attend the blaze, where the rail track meets Deacons Lane in Ashey, near Ryde.

The train line was closed temporarily while Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue officers extinguished the fire, which had produced a lot of thick smoke in the surrounding area.

One hose reel jet was used during the operation.

The incident was wrapped up at 12.12pm.
