The Royal Mail Cart in Spalding to return ‘bigger and bolder’ as new team re-opens later this summer

The new owner of a much-missed pub hopes to ‘bring the buzz back to town’ and create a community hot spot for local talent, good food and lively entertainment.

Just over four months after The Royal Mail Cart on Pinchbeck Road, in Spalding, closed its doors, a new management team has revealed its plans to re-open the venue.

Padraig Hughes, of Gosberton, will be joining forces with former general manager Sarah Cox and the pair have outlined their vision to bring the Mail Cart back to life.

The duo hope to highlight and support upcoming musicians and artists with various open mic evenings, song contests, live entertainment, karaoke and musical bingo.

Padraig said: “The plan is to make it a community pub where people feel very welcome.

“We’re hoping to bring the buzz back to town and turn it into the liveliest, most musical and downright entertaining venue in the area.

“We want to introduce a good, fun place for the community and, being a creative artist myself, I felt passionate about bringing local talent to the pub.

“Since we announced we would be re-opening we have had a lot of inquiries from bands who want to book for gigs – its going to be really lively I think.”

Padraig, who moved to the area from Ireland in 2014, has previously run a pub in London and has been involved in the trade from a young age.

After setting eyes on The Royal Mail Cart when it closed in March, he knew the opportunity couldn’t be missed. Padraig said: “I thought the Mail Cart looked great, I was surprised when it closed – it has got tremendous potential.

“It’s going to be coming back bigger, bolder and bursting with music and community spirit.”

Sarah and Padraig are currently working on a new menu which is set to incorporate fresh produce from local businesses and old-time favourites.

There will also be a mix of new and old faces coming on board to join the team.

Sarah is looking forward to welcoming customers back to the Royal Mail Cart. She said: “When we announced the pub would be closing everyone was really upset as we’d built up a massive clientele of all ages.

“For myself personally, I loved working here and seeing all of the customers and I think since we have been closed people have realised how much they missed it.

“We have had lots of really great feedback about re-opening and I think people are defiantly looking forward to seeing its return.

“As I have worked there previously it may be reassuring for Padraig to have me on board, knowing I have inside knowledge of the premises and the people who visit us – hopefully we will see some new faces as well.”

The Royal Mail Cart is set to re-open mid August.
