CAMRA encourage residents to support their locals ahead of Spalding’s The Royal Mail Cart re-opening

Pub campaigners are urging people to support their locals during a ‘challenging climate’, as residents react to the return of a much-missed closed establishment.

The Royal Mail Cart in Spalding will soon be serving customers once more after the new owners announced it would re-open later this summer.

Chair of Fenland CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) Malcolm Phillips was thrilled to hear the Pinchbeck Road pub had been taken over by a fresh face, but urges residents to support the venue in an era of convenience.

Malcolm, who has been a member of CAMRA since 1974, believes pubs are a vital part of the community and need fighting for.

He said: “It’s great to hear people are still interested in going to pubs.

“Increased costs have made it much trickier for pubs to run and, as a result of the cost of living crisis, people can’t afford to go out either – its a very challenging climate.

“Pubs are the last socialising place in a lot of villages and need to be saved.

“CAMRA is running a campaign to save them from disappearing.

“A number of venues across the UK are now attempting to set up community groups to take over pubs and I think that should be applauded because, in many cases, it may be the only thing saving them.”
