The 20 best Cotswolds pubs in Oxfordshire including Clarkson’s

It is no secret that the area is full of watering holes at every turn, with town taverns and cosy village locals all available. 

But where can you find the best of the best in the Oxfordshire part of the Cotswolds with so many options on offer?

The Cotswolds Gentleman has provided a strong answer for this with a 2025 list of the best 50 pubs and, of these, 20 can be found dotted around west Oxfordshire.

Starting off in Burford, you have The Angel with as many as five further mentions for those close to the town.

The Carpenters Arms in Fulbrook, The Fox in Great Barrington, The Swann Inn in Swinbrook and The Three Horseshoes in Asthall are all included in this.

Rounding off the boozers near Burford is Jeremy Clarkson’s very own pub, The Farmer’s Dog, which is also in Asthall.

Opening in August of last year, the watering hole was formerly known as The Windmill before the Top Gear star bought it for around £1,000,000.

Moving on to Kingham and there are The Kingham Plough and The Wild Rabbit, while The Chequers can be found in nearby Churchill.

The Lamb in Crawley and The Royal Oak in Ramsden, both near Witney, also make the list by The Cotswolds Gentleman.

Woodstock’s Back Lane Tavern also makes the cut, as does The Killingworth Castle in nearby Wootton and The Bell Inn in Langford.

Some of the other mentioned favourites are The Double Red Duke in Bampton, The Hare in Milton-under-Wychwood and The Bull in Charlbury.

Chipping Norton’s The King’s Arms also features, as does The Black Horse in nearby Salford and The Mason’s Arms in Bampton, rounding off the list.
