Plan for 53 homes in Stretford on former Royal Mail site

The proposed site, on Lacy Street, the former Royal Mail sorting office, probation centre, and existing car park.

Designed by Pozzoni architects, the development will include two, three, and four-bedroom houses, as well as two-bedroom flats.

The tallest buildings will reach 3.5 storeys.

Fourteen of the homes will be classed as affordable.

Councillor Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s executive member for economy and regeneration, said: “This is a crucial site and forms part of the overall Stretford masterplan.

“We are applying for permission to build 53 new homes – 14 of which are affordable.

She added: “The designs reflect feedback that we have had from residents in the consultation about the need to develop houses, as well as flats, and to open up access to the canal in the area.”

The Lacy Street site is part of the wider Stretford masterplan, which was refreshed in 2021 and 2024, and sits opposite Stretford Mall, which is currently being redeveloped in partnership with Bruntwood.

A decision will be made at an upcoming planning meeting.
