The CAMRA Good Beer Guide is the UK’s definitive annual guidebook to pubs and breweries serving real ale, published by The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

It is compiled by CAMRA volunteers who independently evaluate and select thousands of pubs across the UK based on the quality of their real ale, with the goal of promoting the best traditional pubs and breweries.

The Good Beer Guide 2026 best pubs in Taunton are:

The Ale House

Located at 78 Station Road, Taunton, this pub, which was originally called the Royal Mail, before becoming the Cricketers Arms and now the Ale House, is described as “pleasant” overall.

A CAMRA spokesperson wrote: “A central bar boasts five handpumps usually serving at least three cask ales at any one time from a huge range of 60 in the SIBA local beer catalogue.”

The food is described as “reasonably priced and “good quality” with the location praised for its proximity to Taunton Station.

Perkin Warbeck

Located at 22-23 East Street, Taunton, this pub is named after the man who claimed to be the rightful heir to the throne of England in 1497.

Recently refurbished, the pub has one of the longest bars in the country and at the rear is an outdoor terrace which is described by the CAMRA team as “splendid”.

Cricket fans can enjoy Somerset Cricket memorabilia dotted around the interior, with the pub only a “stones throw” from the cricket ground.

A CAMRA spokesperson wrote: “An excellent range of ales and ciders kept.”

Ring of Bells

Located at 16-17 St James Street, a CAMRA spokesperson described this pub as a “favourite haunt of cricket fans.”

Serving “excellent food”, this pub has two bar areas with open fires, a downstairs eating area, upstairs restaurant space and large outside courtyard.

The five cask beers to choose from in this pub are from local, regional and national breweries, with the CAMRA team writing that visitors may find “interesting keg beers” offered inside.

Booking ahead is recommended for this pub.

Wyvern Taunton Pub

Located at Mountfields Road, approximately one mile from Taunton town centre, for over forty years the Wyvern has been a “great venue to drink real ales and real cider”, the CAMRA team writes.

They said: “The pub is a hub for football, rugby, cricket and squash. Local CAMRA Club of the Year on multiple occasions, the Wyvern has been a fixture in the Guide for many years.”
