McDonald’s has announced a major policy alteration that has left some customers rather displeased.
Numerous patrons of the fast-food chain now utilise its mobile application for transactions, exclusive offers, restaurant visits, and loyalty point accumulation.
App users earn one MyMcDonald’s Rewards point for every penny they spend at McDonald’s.
Upon reaching specific point thresholds, these can be redeemed for various rewards, including snacks, main meals, and beverages, or customers may opt for McDonald’s to make a charitable contribution in their name.
For instance, 1,500 points might secure you a medium soft drink, regular coffee, mini McFlurry, or small chips, amongst other options, reports the Mirror.
The greater the number of points you collect, the more substantial the items available for redemption.
Previously, points could remain in your account until you chose to utilise them, but this arrangement is set to alter.
A McDonald’s announcement states: “We’re giving MyMcDonald’s Rewards a bit of a refresh. As part of the latest update, we’ll be changing how long your points are valid for.
“From 30 December 2025, all points will expire six full calendar months after they’re earned, instead of the current 12 months. This will apply to existing and future points, meaning any points earned before 30 June 2025 will automatically expire on 1st January 2026, unless you redeem them by then!”.
The modification has received a lukewarm response from certain McDonald’s enthusiasts.
Following a Reddit user’s disclosure of the news, others promptly contributed their views on the matter. One individual on the platform commented: “6 months before the points expire? Incredibly stingy, and wasn’t even that generous to begin with.”
Another user chimed in: “Oh great more cuts”, while a third seemed less bothered, stating: “Lol, about 30,000 points in free food coming my way in the next 3 months then.”
A fourth person added: “My points never last more than 2 weeks so [shrug emoji]”.
