Police name the 17 charged over Leicester factory protest

Men and women from Leicestershire and elsewhere, aged 20 to 66, have been charged with trespassing

The latest protest at a drone factory in Braunstone Town has led to 17 people being charged with trespassing. The 17, who are aged from 20 to 66, are all due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court next month.

Leicestershire Police said in a statement about the protest at U-TacS yesterday morning (Tuesday, October 21): “A police response to a report of a protest has led to 17 people being charged.

“Officers attended a premises at the Meridian Business Park shortly after a call was received at 6.30am yesterday. A number of people arrested have been charged with aggravated trespass.

“They are due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 19 November.”

Protestors claim that the owner of U-TacS – also known as UAV Tactical Systems – is “Israel’s biggest weapons maker”, while UAV Tactical Systems has consistently denied the claims, saying the company does not supply the Israeli military or Israeli Ministry of Defence.

A similar protest took place last month at the factory, on Tuesday, September 23, in which six women were arrested in connection with a Pro-Palestine protest. A spokesperson for U-TacS said: “U-TacS provides critical support to the UK armed forces. We do not supply the Israeli military or Israeli Ministry of Defence and any claims to the contrary are completely false.”
