The victim came forward after hearing about other offences involving Glen Stone
A man has been jailed for indecently assaulting a girl in Rhyl several decades ago. The offence came to light when the victim heard about other offending by Glen Stone.
Stone, 66, previously of Duncan Place in Wigan and now of HMP Berwyn, Wrexham, admitted the offence. A judge at Caernarfon Crown Court today jailed him for 32 months.
Prosecutor Elen Owen told how Stone and the girl, who was under 14 at the time, had been alone together. She was on a sofa and he lay behind her. You can sign up for all the latest court stories here
Stone put his hand down the girl’s pants and also touched her intimately. It was “painful” and she was “scared”, the court heard.
Years after the indecent assault, she read newspaper reports about other sexual offending by Stone, and came forward to report his crime against her.
In 2023, Stone had been jailed for four years for historic sex offences against two young girls. Stone initially denied the offence against the girl in Rhyl but pleaded guilty before a trial.
Ms Owen said the offence had a “profound” effect on his victim. In a statement, the victim – now a woman – said: “Glen Stone ruined my life.”
She said she ended up in a violent relationship and turned to drink. She is often “looking over her shoulder” and “hopes he gets the sentence he deserves”.
On the indecent assault offence, James Coutts, defending, said: “I of course accept that an incident of the nature has an effect on people going forward through their life (but) it is difficult to draw a causative link that everything said in the victim’s statement…is attributable to this incident.”
He added that Stone has previously fallen and broken his back leaving him in “severe pain”. He also has coronary heart disease, diabetes, angina and asthma.
Mr Coutts said the defendant’s wife is standing by him which has caused a “split” in their family.
The judge Her Honour Nicola Jones said he had made a “lewd” comment to the girl and assaulted her on the sofa, which has affected her.
Jailing Stone today, she said he will serve 16 months – half his sentence – before his case can go before the parole board. She made a ten-year restraining order with conditions including prohibiting him from contacting his victim, who cannot be named to protect her anonymity.
