BANGKOK, Thailand – Songkhla Province formally welcomed the ceremonial flame for the 33rd SEA Games and 13th ASEAN Para Games, underscoring its readiness to host the region’s major sporting events.
The flame, graciously bestowed by His Majesty the King on November 6, 2025, was received by Governor Ratthasart Chidchoo, together with provincial officials, civil servants, and members of the public, as part of the nationwide torch relay promoting the 2025 SEA Games and 2025 ASEAN Para Games.
Before the ceremony began, attendees observed a moment of silence in tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The governor then paid respects before the royal portrait of His Majesty the King and received the ceremonial lantern from Wuttichai Chaijit, Director of Sports Business. The flame was placed on the official stand as a symbol of auspiciousness, marking the province’s participation in the lead-up to the upcoming regional sports festivals.
The Governor then used the flame to ignite the first torch, passing it to Deputy Governor Chucheep Thammaphet before it continued along the designated relay routes. The morning segment started at Tinsulanonda Stadium and traveled through iconic Songkhla locations. The afternoon run began at Central Hat Yai and will continue through key urban landmarks before finishing at Chiranakhon Stadium.
The relay in Songkhla supports nationwide efforts to build excitement and unity ahead of the 33rd SEA Games, co-hosted by Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, as well as the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima. The event highlights the province’s operational readiness and the strong community support for welcoming athletes and delegations from across Southeast Asia. (NNT)
