As Christmas draws near, it might be worthwhile considering sending letters and parcels before the deadline for deliveries throughout the UK arrives. Thousands of gifts, cards and correspondence are posted during the festive season and it represents a hectic period for postal workers as they gather, organise and transport the mail to residences and commercial premises.
Postal staff are gearing up for a demanding Christmas period, which can entail extended shifts and intense pressure to ensure presents reach their destinations by the crucial date, December 25.
Each Christmas, Royal Mail permits correspondence to be “posted” to Santa from youngsters. An alert regarding getting those letters dispatched on schedule has been issued.
Royal Mail said: “Writing a letter to Santa this Christmas? Make sure you send your letters to Santa by December 10. Don’t forget to include a full name and address on the back of the envelope so Santa can reply. Send your letters to: Santa/Father Christmas Santa’s Grotto Reindeerland XM4 5HQ.”
To write a letter to Santa, you must write Santa’s address on the envelope, affix a stamp and include your complete name and address on the reverse of the envelope, reports the Liverpool Echo. Royal Mail uses the details so “Santa” can respond to correspondence.
For all postal services, Royal Mail cautions: “Allow plenty of time for posting. Please post items and gifts for Christmas early, particularly for International deliveries.
“As we approach the busiest time of year, international delivery services experience much higher volumes of parcels and letters. To help ensure your items arrive in time for Christmas, we strongly recommend posting as early as possible.”
