Electric Miles tops 11,000 flexibility events on its smart charging platform

• Electric Miles’ SmartFlex platform has now delivered over 11,000 flexibility events across the UK power network, in partnership with major distribution system operators (DSOs).

Electric Miles reaches milestone in smart EV charging technology

Electric Miles, a UK-based EV smart charging technology firm, has reached a major milestone after delivering over 11,000 flexibility events via its SmartFlex platform. Working alongside major electricity network operators such as UK Power Networks, National Grid Electricity Distribution, and Northern Powergrid, the company is helping demonstrate how EV charging will play a crucial role in supporting the wider UK energy grid.

The SmartFlex system works by reducing energy consumption, automatically adjusting the charging schedules of thousands of home EV chargers during times of peak energy demand. This capability is vital for managing grid constraints, especially during winter peaks, and will allow network operators to often avoid more costly infrastructure upgrades. This platform recently proved its scale, carrying out more than 1,000 automatic demand side response events in just one month to help with network stability.

Another part of Electric Miles’ strategy is to ensure that EV owners are financially rewarded for participating in the scheme, to encourage uptake of the technology. The company is now launching a reward scheme, which will see 50 EV drivers who join the scheme receive a £30 voucher – and it expects to offer more rewards in the future as its programme grows.

As EV ownership continues to rise at record rates across the UK, Electric Miles anticipates a further increase in flexibility events, with plans to expand SmartFlex services to fleets, depots, and charge point networks.
