The development of a 13-storey student block located on the site of a former Royal Mail sorting office is nearing completion.
Pictures of True Student’s new branch in Nottingham city centre show the scale of the impressive 661-bed construction as final enhancements are carried out at the site on the corner of Bath Street and Brook Street, on the city centre’s border with Sneinton.
The plot used to be occupied by the Bendigo Building, named after the famous 19th-century boxer, William ‘Bendigo’ Thompson, and stayed vacant for 20 years after Royal Mail vacated the premises.
The building, which was once voted the city’s ugliest, was demolished in 2023 to make way for the student accommodation, which opened this September.
True Student now houses a mix of studio flats and five to six-bedroom flats, as well as a gym with personal trainers, a multimedia and games lounge and bike storage.
The development’s courtyard has also just opened on December 1.
A statement from True Student reads: “While some bedroom blocks and the courtyard will still be undergoing final enhancements in September, all social spaces and key facilities will be fully ready, ensuring your experience is seamless and disruption-free.
“Our on-site gym is filled with the latest equipment, from weights to exercise machines. You’ll also find social spaces like our study area, chill zone, reading nook and festival zone, where we host our infamous events.
“And in our games den you’ll find shuffleboard, Monopoly and Jenga, as well as old school arcade games.”
