Post Office issues alert to anyone sending parcels today

December is the busiest period for the service

The Post Office is advising customers to prepare themselves if they intend to use its services today (December 8). December marks the peak period for dispatching letters and parcels throughout the UK and internationally.

Numerous people will be sending Christmas presents to family and friends this week, whilst others are opting for online shopping rather than navigating crowded town centres. Nevertheless, the Post Office has released an alert as shoppers descend upon their neighbourhood branches in the run-up to Christmas Day.

Those intending to post items today, Monday 8 December, should take note as this date is anticipated to be the Post Office’s most hectic day of the year.

The organisation has forecast that today will see the highest volume of Christmas parcels and post being sent across all its UK locations. British people are planning to post more gifts this year than last, representing a 13 per cent increase, according to Post Office figures.

Customers are being encouraged to think ahead and utilise their neighbourhood branches to send parcels at the earliest opportunity. This approach can help guarantee that gifts arrive punctually and eliminate eleventh-hour anxiety, advises the Express. Post Office branches facilitate the sending of Royal Mail, Parcelforce, Amazon, DPD, DPD, DHL and Evri parcels.

Postmaster Arif Matadar commented: “Christmas is one of the most joyful times of year in our Post Offices. There’s nothing quite like seeing customers come through the door with parcels and cards, ready to spread some festive cheer to their loved ones. It really reminds me how much of a community hub we are.”

He added: “As we want our customers making the most of the festivities, there are a few tips I’d recommend to help get organised and make your posting experience as smooth and stress-free as possible. Checking the last posting dates, especially for international destinations, is a great place to start, as these can vary depending on where you’re sending to. Writing addresses clearly and adding a return address on the back also helps make sure everything gets where it needs to go.”

The Postmaster continued: “If you’re not sure which delivery option is best for your parcel, our friendly team is always happy to help you choose the right one, whether that’s for gifts, cards, or something extra special. For items like cash or vouchers, we recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery, which offers full tracking and insurance cover for added peace of mind. Meanwhile, Candice Ohandjanian, mails and parcels director at Post Office, highlighted the scale of this year’s festive season: “This Christmas is shaping up to be one of the busiest yet, with nearly three quarters (74 per cent) of Brits planning to buy the same number, or even more, gifts for loved ones than last year. And when it comes to sending those carefully chosen presents, the local Post Office remains the main place the public rely on to ensure they arrive safely. Plan ahead, pop into your local branch, and enjoy the season knowing your gifts are in safe hands.”
