Double-death tragedy as mum and baby die 9 months apart leaving loved ones devastated

Paula Edgar, 34, passed away in November after her daughter, Pixie, died at six months on February 24.

A Scots family has been left devastated after losing a young mum and her baby daughter just nine months apart.

Paula Edgar, 34, passed away in November after her daughter, Pixie, died at six months on February 24. The tot tragically died from Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) while being bathed by her mum earlier this year.

Paula had spent 18 years trying for a baby, including IVF, before she fell pregnant with Pixie just months before Christmas in 2024. Following the pain of losing her baby, the mum started having seizures from two tumours on her brain.

It was the thought of facing a Christmas without her little girl that led to heartbroken Paula losing her life. The double-death tragedy has left her mum, Diane, devastated.

Diane, from Blantyre in South Lanarkshire, told Glasgow Live: “Paula was the bubbliest, happiest and kindest person that you could ever meet. She was just high on life and loved life. That all went away when Pixie passed. She was a shell.

“She told me since she was 16 that she wanted to have a child. It just never happened for her, even after IVF. Then, by a miracle, she fell pregnant with Pixie.

“Pixie was her entire world. She would never let anyone help. She was so devoted to that beautiful wee girl. Her first Christmas was the happiest we ever had. She was one of the most wonderful wee souls out there.”

Opening up on what this Christmas is going to be like, Diane said: “Paula had such a big, loud and infectious laugh and now it’s just silent. Christmas is going to be tough without her.

“Everyone felt her loss because she was so popular in the area. We will remember her for the wonderful wee soul that she was and how important she was to the 1000s of people that she touched during her life.

“She was my wee sidekick and I don’t know what I will do without her. She was one in a million. I’ll miss her laugh the most.”
