Huddersfield crash latest as major road closed – Police statement in full

Blackmoorfoot Road has been closed following a crash

A Royal Mail delivery van driver has been seriously injured after his stationary van rolled forward and hit him.

Police were called to Blackmoorfoot Road in Huddersfield today (Monday, December 29) after a man in his 50s was seriously injured. A spokesperson for the force said he was hit by a van, which had been stationary but had rolled forward. The road has been closed for much of today as officer investigated the crash.

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called to Blackmoorfoot Road, Huddersfield, at just after 12pm to a report a man had been seriously injured in a collision.

“Emergency services attended the scene where it was reported a van, which had been stationary, had rolled forwards and collided with its driver who was in the road. The van then rolled downhill, hitting other cars before coming to rest.

“The van driver, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are serious but are not being treated as life-threatening. A road closure was put in place on Blackmoorfoot Road at the junction with Park Road West for investigation and recovery work.”
