Kingswinford MP Mike Wood on greenbelt and Royal Mail

In recent weeks, I am pleased to report that there has been a major shift in a positive direction in relation to protecting local Green Belt sites within Dudley. As I am writing, just last week it was announced that the Planning Inspector has backed Dudley Council’s intention to refuse to review Green Belt boundaries as part of the latest edition of the borough’s Local Plan.

In practice, this means that Green Belt sites such as the Kingswinford Triangle, land between the Charterfields estate & Holbeach, and the nearby Corbett Meadow remain green spaces for many years to come.

These areas have been the focus of strong local campaigns against inappropriate development, and whilst the Government continues to try to take the right to protect the countryside away from us, we will continue to fight to save our beloved Green Belt.

Elsewhere I have been concerned for some time that people in Kingswinford have not been receiving letters on time via Royal Mail, with posts sometimes taking up to two weeks to arrive. Over 20 of my constituents have contacted me on separate occasions about this, although I know there will be many more people affected.  In recent days, I published my letter to the Directors of Royal Mail on my website, where I request urgent remedial action to restore regular collections and deliveries. This is a repeat and longstanding issue, and I wanted to reassure all those impacted that I will do everything I can to support a resolution.

Finally, in Westminster, I have been speaking against Government plans to implement a mandatory Digital ID for the right to work. Just last week, I challenged the Government at the Dispatch Box to clarify whether they are still expecting the taxpayer to foot the £1.8 billion bill latest for the latest form of their Digital ID scheme, which would remain wholly unacceptable.

As always, I am here to help, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you feel I can be of assistance.
