“This is a big moment in our work to cut energy bills.”

The Government is already taking action to reduce energy bills. In April, every household will see an average of £150 come off their energy costs. And right now, half a million households across Scotland are receiving the Warm Home Discount – a further £150 off their bills.

The Warm Homes Plan is about making our homes more energy efficient and ensuring that everyone is able to access the latest technology – like rooftop solar, batteries and heat pumps – to reduce their bills. An average household can save hundreds of pounds a year on energy with these technologies.

The plan is backed by £15 billion in UK Government investment, with clear allocations for Scotland to ensure that households here get the support they need. This stands in stark contrast to the SNP Scottish Government, who cut funding for rooftop solar and retrofit schemes, leaving families facing higher bills and fewer options to improve their homes.

The UK Labour Government is determined to put that right and make sure Scotland does not miss out on this record investment in clean power upgrades.

Families our area and across Scotland, deserve better than the SNP’s approach to home energy support. They deserve the same chance to cut bills and benefit from cleaner and more affordable energy as households anywhere else in the UK.

Keeping Royal Mail on the agenda

While the Christmas postal rush is over, the issue of mail being delayed is still high on my agenda. In the last couple of weeks I’ve met with the Postal Services Minister, Blair McDougall MP, to discuss the issues people across our community faced over Christmas.

I’ve also received word from Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board about the work they are now doing to ensure that hospital appointment letters reach people, even where there is disruption. If you are having issues with your deliveries, please do get in touch with my office.

OpenReach work in Port Glasgow

Last week, I met with OpenReach to hear more about the full fibre build they are constructing across Port Glasgow, giving residents higher internet speeds and connecting those without.

Over recent years, access to high-speed internet has improved significantly across our area, but there is still work that needs to be done.

These days, a high speed internet connection is as important as many other utilities, and as more services move online its essential that everyone can benefit from a reliable connection.

Burns Night

As many in our communities come together tomorrow evening to celebrate Burns Night, I hope everyone across Inverclyde and Renfrewshire West enjoys an evening filled with the poetry, food and community spirit that make this occasion so special.

I’m looking forward to joining the Greenock Burns Club, the world’s oldest Burns Club, for their annual Burns supper.
