A YouTube star famous for pranking members of the public has revealed his regret after one of his jokes went too far – leaving him with an $800 bill.
Max Fosh, 30, from London, appeared on the Spent podcast, in association with Nationwide, where he revealed some of his wildest purchases to host Matt Edmondson.
During a trip to New York, Max revealed he pretended to be a member of the royal family, giving himself the invented title of Earl of Luton.
He recalled: ‘We went to Fifth Avenue, and I’d hired two bodyguards to stand either side of me. They were massive guys to make me look very important.

‘I was wearing kind of a suit. And we walked into the boutique, Fifth Avenue fashion stores, and I had my friend of mine, who’s American going before me, pretending to be kind of my fixer, the Royals fixer.
‘And she said, ‘just to let you know a member the British royal family is about to arrive. Is there anything you can do to accommodate his stay’?’
Max claims the staff in the boutique store ‘lost their minds immediately’ and closed down an entire floor.
He continued: ‘I’m basically pointing out things that I think are really ugly, because I want to see whether this personal shopper will say that I look good in basically anything.’
Max explained his plan was to buy some items as part of the prank and then return them a few days later to get his money back.
‘I go to pay for four items which totalled $2,500,’ he said.
However, Max hadn’t fooled everyone – and discovered shortly after leaving the store with his new purchases that he had been rumbled.
‘As soon as I left, I looked at my Instagram, and I had a DM from somebody, and it was a DM from one of the girls who worked in the department store to my Max Fosh account, and she wrote, I knew it was you. I know that was b******t.’
Left in a panic, Max called his lawyer to ask for advice – who calmly reminded him that, while he’d fooled some people into thinking he was someone else, he hadn’t actually committed a crime.
But just to be on the safe side, he advised him not to return the items.

‘So I didn’t return the items I have kept. Have had to keep the Greg Loren shirt, which I then put on and is so see through all you can see are my nipples just poking right out the front of them,’ he said.
Max’s embarrassing story comes in a long line of celebrities who have confessed their spending sins to Matt Edmonson.
Among the weird and whacky purchases celebrities have made are Melvin Odoom’s hot tub – which he joked made him feel ‘seedy’.
Describing the pricey purchase as the biggest ‘waste of money’ he has ever spent, Melvin revealed how it came with hidden costs which bumped up the price even more.
‘I ordered the hot tub, and then after I paid for it, they were like, so Melvin, you’re gonna have to get this craned into your house… I’ve had to pay for this crane, which nearly smashed the roof of my house,’ he said.
He revealed he had hoped the purchase would make him appear ‘cool’ but joked that in reality, it had the opposite effect.
‘No one thought it was cool. When you’re single – I was single for so long – I remember going to people: ‘I’ve got a hot tub at home’.
‘There’s nothing more seedy than telling a person you’ve just met you’ve got a hot tub.’
Melvin added it had been a deeply impractical purchase, as he felt it was extremely laborious to actually use the contraption.
He joked: ‘Every time I wanted to use it was like a science exam – it has to be on all the time. When the cost of living started going up – I just switched it off. I emptied it and walked away.
‘It was the biggest waste of money.’
