Banking hub statement as worker accused of short-changing customer

A fraud investigation is underway

Banking hub bosses say they are working with the police after a worker was accused of short-changing a customer. A fraud investigation was launched after a woman claimed £140 was missing as she tried to pay in cash,

She explained to officers that she had attempted to deposit money at Stone Banking Hub, in High Street, when she was told there was a limit on the amount she could pay in.

The outstanding cash was returned to the woman, but £140 was reported missing. Staffordshire Police are probing the incident which happened at around 2pm on Monday (January 26).

A Cash Access UK – a not-for-profit company that runs banking hub – is also looking into the issue. A spokesperson said: “We take these matters very seriously and are working closely with the Post Office and the team are assisting the local Police where necessary.”

In a statement released yesterday, a force spokesman said: “We were called at 4pm on Monday to an address on High Street, Stone, following reports of a possible fraud.

“A woman reported that she had tried to pay in cash at a hub at around 2pm when she was told there was a limit on the amount she could pay in. The outstanding cash was returned to the woman, but £140 was reported missing. Officers are investigating and anyone with information is asked to get in touch.”
