Post office officially returns and is ‘wholeheartedly welcomed’

A vital Post Office service has returned to Woolwich after a new branch officially opened on Powis Street.

The branch, located inside Stationeries & Gifts at 102 Powis Street, was opened by Manish Garg, a postmaster with nearly 20 years of experience.

Mr Garg runs two other branches in Eltham and Blackheath Village.

Councillor Jackie Smith, cabinet member for inclusive economy, business, Greenwich supports and environmental services, said: “We are getting things done in Woolwich and the opening of the new post office marks one of many improvements to the area.

“Woolwich is one of our busiest areas and it is vital that people have a face-to-face service.

“As a councillor and a local resident, I wholeheartedly welcome its arrival.”

The previous Woolwich branch closed in April 2025 when the store housing it shut down.

The new branch offers a very wide range of Post Office services and is open 56 hours per week.

Operating hours are 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sundays.

Customers have access to Royal Mail and Parcelforce services, as well as DPD’s buy-in-branch option for sending or collecting parcels.

The branch also supports personal and business banking, bill payments, vehicle tax renewals and ID verification services.
