522p – parcel delivery operator – We should be eternally grateful to Business Post. This parcel delivery group is doing us a favour by attacking Royal Mail, one of the last state-owned monopolies, and attempting to introduce competition into a sclerotic part of the UK economy. If successful, Business Post will introduce cut-price mailing services for business customers.
Business Post’s plan is to collect mail from its business customers, sort it, then hand it to Royal Mail for final delivery. After years of wrangling, the two sides have finally agreed an access price for Business Post to use Royal Mail’s network of postmen. It will pay between 13p and 13.75p for each letter, depending on how much sorting Business Post has done.
