Royal Mail issues post warning for five Birmingham postcodes – full list

Households hit by delays

The Royal Mail has issued a postal warning for five Birmingham postcodes. The Royal Mail says households living in B11, B12, B25, B26 and B27 may experience delays due to disruptuion at a city delivery office this week.

In an email to Birmingham households, the Royal Mail said: “We’re sorry to advise that deliveries in parts of the B11, B12 and B25-B27 postcode areas may be disrupted due to resourcing issues at the Redfern Park Delivery Office.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your understanding. We’ll be back in touch to inform you when the resourcing issues have improved.”

It added: “To collect items from our Customer Service Point, you will need a valid ‘Something for you’ card or electronic notification advising we’re holding an item for you. Please check royalmail.com/services-near-you for opening times, as these may be subject to change.”

The delays come almost a year after the £3.6bn takeover of Royal Mail’s parent company, International Distribution Services (IDS), by the Czech billionaire Daniel Křetínský.

While the Communication Workers Union (CWU) said it favoured the takeover over sticking with its former board as the deal was being finalised, it has since expressed frustration with the new owner.

Craig Anderson, a CWU regional official, told the BBC that Royal Mail was “a company in crisis”.

“I’m not confident that the service is going to improve going forward, it certainly hasn’t since Christmas,” he said.

Before Christmas, the Royal Mail as fined £21m for missing its annual delivery targets for first- and second-class mail, leading to millions of letters arriving late across the UK, according to the regulator Ofcom.

This is the third time the 509-year-old postal service has been fined by the communications watchdog, and the third-biggest financial penalty Ofcom has ever issued to any company.

Royal Mail delivered 77% of first class-mail and 92.5% of second-class mail on time during the 2024-25 financial year, Ofcom found.

This was “well short” of its targets of 93% and 98.5%, Ofcom added.
