Areas across Birmingham won’t receive their mail on time
Royal Mail has released another delivery disruption notice for postcodes throughout the UK, including Birmingham. The postal service has attracted criticism regarding its delayed deliveries amid increasing stamp prices.
Earlier this week, billionaire owner Daniel Kretinsky informed MPs: “Of course I am deeply sorry for any letters that arrive late.” Nevertheless, he rejected suggestions that Royal Mail’s performance on-time deliveries was declining.
While being questioned by the Commons Business select committee, Mr Kretinsky commented: “It is not perfect, but it is not catastrophic.”
The firm received a £21million penalty last October for failing to meet First and Second Class delivery standards in its previous financial year.
Just 77 per cent of First Class post and 92.5 per cent of Second Class were delivered on time in its 2024-25 financial year – falling below its respective 93 per cent and 98.5 per cent targets, reports the Mirror.
This follows the announcement that First Class stamps will rise to £1.80 and Second Class stamps to 91p, from April 6. A First Class stamp in 2020 cost 76p.
As of Thursday, March 26, disruptions have affected numerous regions of the UK including Birmingham. Today, 21 delivery offices are experiencing delays, which is impacting 44 postcode areas.
Royal Mail stated: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.
“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive. We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
Over the past 24 hours, Royal Mail’s road and air network ran according to schedule. However, there was a problem at Manchester Mail Centre.
Some post sent from the BL, M, OL and SK postcode areas was intended for delivery today elsewhere across the UK.
