Pupils deliver Easter cards to homes in village

Primary school pupils have been hand delivering Easter cards to every resident in a Herefordshire village.

Children from Bosbury Primary School, near Ledbury, delivered sacks of the brightly-coloured cards whilst dressed in postal uniforms on Thursday morning, reviving the spirit of a post office which closed more than 20 years ago.

The cards, which were posted door-to-door, had been hand designed by the pupils and included drawings of lambs, spring flowers and messages of kindness.

Headteacher Ruth McManus said “small acts of kindness” were really important and pupils had wanted to spread joy and kindness in the community.

“It became quite apparent that because we’re a small rural school, there are people here in this community that don’t see many people,” McManus said of the project, which she started during the pandemic.

“We wanted to make an impact in our community.”

McManus described her pupils as “lovely” and said they were aware that there were people within their community who may not see other people face-to-face.

“There are elder members of the community, we are quite isolated here, we don’t have a village shop,” she explained.

“They love spreading [that] little bit of kindness and joy to the community.”

Local vicar, Dr David Gifford, who also helped out with the project this year, said it was also good for the community to see a link between the school and the church.

One pupil added: “I really liked helping around with the cards and I just thought it would be a good experience.

“We hope they think that someone put some thought into this, and it might just make their day.”
