The number of people receiving food stamps in Rhode Island is on the rise. Driven by the state’s high unemployment rate, the Department of Human Services estimates that the number of people enrolled in the food stamp program passed the 100,000 mark for the first time this month, meaning almost one in 10 Rhode Islanders are now participating.
