Four in 10 shun food stamps in Shasta County

Despite the wretched economy, only 60 percent of the people eligible for food stamps in Shasta County actually receive them.Even though the food stamp caseload has increased nearly 50 percent since 2007, thousands who are eligible to receive the aid are not taking advantage of the help, said Linda Barba, a program manager for the county’s Health and Human Services Agency.
