A Place in the Sun presenter Jonnie Irwin has suffered a painful injury after marking a final milestone with four-year-old Rex, his eldest son. The 49-year-old, who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, took to Instagram on Monday, August 7, as he proudly shared a picture of himself perched on a bike ready to set off on their journey to nursery.
In another selfie, Jonnie captures the special moment as he poses for a quick snap alongside Rex, who was all smiles. Beside the snaps, the doting dad wrote: “Last EVER ride to nursery with Rex. Suitably waved off by Rafa and his spade and Rex with his game face on!”.
However, only hours later the TV star was left in terrible pain when he injured his ankle after he headed back home. Sharing another photo of his ankle with an ice pack attached to it with his 186,000 followers, he groaned: “When you forget the builder has removed your door step…”

Jonnie was immediately inundated with support from followers who sent their well wishes and also tried to lighten the mood.
One person joked: “Oh FFS!!! If you keep wearing those silly stilettos”, as a second offered advice and said: Oh no! Hope you’re OK. Plenty of R.I.C.E. Rest, ice, compression & elevation. Take it easy.”
A third chimed in with: “Doh!! Its easy done x”, while another added: “Oh dear. Hope you’re ok x.”
The television personality is bravely battling the terminal disease after he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020, which has since spread to his brain. Jonnie first went public with his cancer diagnosis in November 2022 after keeping his illness private for two years.
He bravely appeared on BBC Morning Live earlier this month to give fans a health update and talk about the importance of palliative care, which he has been using ever since he was first diagnosed with terminal cancer, reports Hello!.
“I’ve been in palliative care since day one,” he explained. “It can take many guises, palliative care through the hospital, chemotherapy treatment, all the way to the hospice”. He added: “My hospice is a delight, actually. I wouldn’t say it’s like a hotel but it’s like a very nice private hospital.
“My perception of a hospice was very much a boiling hot room full of people that look frail and are towards the end of their days. This is nothing of the sort. It is spacious, energised, and comfortable. It even has a jacuzzi bath and ensuite rooms. The staff are just amazing and I’ve had a really good experience of my hospice.”
