With one of the Queen’s mottos for the Royal Family being ‘we have to be seen to be believed’, it’s perhaps no wonder that an array of colourful outfits worn by female relatives could be spotted across the Jubilee weekend.
From Princess Eugenie’s £1,503 orange dress from Emilia Wickstead to Zara Tindall’s Laura Green hot pink frock for the Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen on Friday, Her Majesty’s support squad of royal women made sure their fashion choices were just as vibrant as the monarch’s usually are.
The Duchess of Cambridge, 40, wowed in a custom Emilia Wickstead yellow dress when at the ceremony, while later that day, Princess Anne sported a bright red blazer while visiting Edinburgh Zoo as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Sophie Wessex, 57, also commanded attention yesterday when wearing a vibrant green blazer to attend the Big Jubilee Lunch festivities in Windsor, alongside her husband and the monarch’s youngest son Prince Edward, and Princess Beatrice made sure to stand out from the crowds this weekend by sporting bright blue ensembles.
The Queen, who made a surprise appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony on Sunday to end the four-day celebrations, has become a master of what stylists call ‘colour block dressing’ – wearing a single shade from head to toe – which her relatives emulated this weekend.
The eye-catching colours help the diminutive 5ft 4in monarch stand out when she is meeting her subjects. Even those stuck at the back of a crowd can’t fail to miss their Queen when she is standing in a tangerine orange coat with a hat to match.

Princess Beatrice, 33, cut an elegant figure in a £775 blue Beulah London gown with a complementary hat from Juliette Botterill (£550) at Friday’s Thanksgiving service – and made sure to similarly standout from the crowd yesterday, when sporting a bright blue Saloni dress.
However, Meghan Markle went for a seemingly less attention-grabbing outfit choice when appearing at the Thanksgiving service.
The Duchess of Sussex, 40, who appeared alongside Prince Harry in their first public reunion with the royal family since moving to the US, opted for a cream Dior haute couture dress coat with statement collar and belt detailing.
She teamed the outfit with a simple wide-brim hat by Stephen Jones Millinery, her favourite Snowflake Snowstorm diamond earrings from Canadian jewellers Birks (upwards of £10,000) and pointed white court shoes, also Dior (£590).
Looking pretty in pink, Zara was in a bespoke Laura Green dress (upwards of £2,000) and a Juliette Botterill hat (£550). Her shoes were from high street favourite LK Bennett and she carried Aspinal’s Micro Lottie bag (£395).
Princess Anne’s daughter put on yet another vibrant display as she joined husband Mike at the Epsom Derby on Saturday.
The Queen’s granddaughter, 41, stepped out in a £480 blue DVF dress and matching hat to take in the action at the Surrey racecourse.
She looked equally vibrant when watching Trooping The Colour, sporting a scarlet £450 silk Beulah London Darsha dress teamed with a Juliette Botterill ‘Floral Blossom Percher’ hat.
Meanwhile, perhaps taking style inspiration from Zara, the Duchess of Cambridge stunned in a bright pink custom Stella McCartney when gathering outside Buckingham Palace in the royal box to watch the Platinum Jubilee Pageant alongside her family.
Yesterday, senior royals including Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Kate Middleton and their children, and Zara and Mike Tindall and their daughters appeared in the royal box to watch the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
Also in attendance was Princess Anne and her son Peter Phillips, who brought along his girlfriend Lindsay Wallace, and his daughters Savannah and Isla.
The pageant came on the final day of a four-day long celebration marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It culminated in a surprise balcony appearance by Her Majesty, alongside Charles, Camilla and the Cambridges.
The Queen – who sources say was ‘determined’ to bravely overcame her painful mobility issues – returned to Buckingham Palace to personally thank the thousands of well-wishers in the crowd who had turned out to express their own gratitude.

She was flanked by her three heirs – son, Prince Charles, grandson, Prince William, and great-grandson, Prince George – offering a glimpse into the monarchy’s future.
The Sussexes were left out of any official role during the Jubilee, and one aide told the Telegraph at the beginning of the Jubilee they would not be having ‘a prominent role’ in the festivities.
The Daily Mail’s Richard Kay wrote that the long weekend saw a triumph of ‘public service and duty’ over the ‘celebrity-driven approach of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ and whose absence was ‘barely noticed’.
The Platinum Jubilee Pageant was an afternoon of entertainment for members of the royal family, who all sat together alongside their siblings and cousins.
The parade told the story of her life, and the nation, with an eccentric, fun and imaginative carnival-like display.
An insider said: ‘There was no fanfare, they just went. They didn’t stick around for the Platinum Jubilee pageant which is a celebration of Britain and all of its quirks and eccentricities over the Queen’s 70 year reign.’
Instead of attending this and a concert yesterday, Harry and Meghan celebrated their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday in Windsor on Saturday with a ‘relaxed’ birthday party —with royal second cousins invited to the festivities.
Elsewhere, the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall donned a bright Beulah London Darsha dress teamed with a Juliette Botterill ‘Floral Blossom Percher’ hat and her Rolex watch as she got ready to watch Trooping The Colour with her husband Mike

The little girl’s birthday party was open to Zara and Mike Tindall’s three children, Mia, eight, Lena, three, and Lucas, one, as well as Savannah, 11, and Isla, 10, daughters of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly.
The couple were also seen at the Friday’s thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, where a huge cheer went up as Harry and Meghan arrived and they were greeted at the great west door by the Dean of St Paul’s.
It was the first time that the couple were on full public view alongside the Windsors since they quit the monarchy for a new life in the US two years ago.
They spent a few minutes talking to the senior cleric before they entered the place of worship and proceeded to greet the long line of clergy.
But before the festivities started an aide told The Telegraph: ‘The media might try to make them prominent, but in reality they are not going to be playing a prominent role. A line has been drawn.’
The Sussexes were also seen from a window at Thursday’s Trooping the Colour, but were not on the balcony alongside working royals. Neither Lilibet, nor her older brother three-year-old Archie, have been seen in public at any of the festivities.
